Privacy
This notice explains how I, Cheryl, handle information when you visit Tale Haven at talehaven.life. I am the data controller for this personal site. I am not a company; there is no marketing department behind the page. If language here is plain rather than legalistic, that is intentional — you should understand what happens without needing a glossary.
What this site is
Tale Haven is a static personal blog. Pages are html files served from a host I pay for. There is no user account system, no comment engine, no newsletter signup, and no contact form. You read; optionally you email me; optionally you allow cookies described on the cookie note.
Information I do not collect automatically
I do not run analytics scripts on this site as of the build date above. I do not use Facebook pixels, Google Analytics, or similar measurement tools. I do not build profiles of visitors. Server logs maintained by my hosting provider may record technical data such as ip address, browser type, requested url, and timestamp — that is standard for web hosting and is retained according to the provider's policy, not mine. I access those logs only if troubleshooting an outage or abuse.
Information you choose to send
If you email [email protected] or write by post, I receive whatever you include: your address, your words, attachments you choose. I use that information only to read and reply. I do not sell it, rent it, or upload it to advertising networks. I may keep correspondence in my inbox or in paper form as long as it remains useful for continuity — years for kind letters, shorter for purely transactional notes.
Cookies and similar storage
With your consent, this site stores a small json record in a cookie named th_consent on your device, path /, maximum age roughly one hundred eighty days. Optionally, with separate consent, it stores th_pref for text size. Details, including how to change or withdraw consent, are on the cookie page. Until you decide, maps from Google may remain blocked by script. I do not use cookies for advertising.
Embedded content
Each page may load a Google Maps embed if you allow embed cookies or choose a once-per-session load. When embedded, Google may collect data according to its own policies. I do not control Google's processing. You can avoid the embed by rejecting optional cookies and not clicking the session load button.
Legal bases (where applicable)
For visitors in jurisdictions that require a legal basis: consent covers optional cookies and embeds; legitimate interest covers operating a personal website and responding to messages you initiate; contractual necessity is rarely relevant because there is no paid service here.
Children
This site is written for general adult readers. I do not knowingly collect information from children. If a young person contacted me, I would respond appropriately and delete unnecessary details.
Retention
Cookie consent records expire per max-age unless you clear them sooner. Email is retained according to my inbox habits. Static pages remain published until I edit or remove them manually.
Security
I use https where the host provides it. Static files reduce attack surface — there is no database to breach on this site itself. Email security depends on our respective providers. Do not send sensitive identifiers unless necessary.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of personal data about you. Email [email protected] with subject "privacy" and describe your request. I will respond within a reasonable time. You may also lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.
International visitors
I write from Singapore. If you read from elsewhere, your data may transit servers in multiple countries because the internet routes that way. I do not intentionally target foreign jurisdictions with separate processing.
Changes
When I update this notice I change the date at the top. Material changes will be described plainly. Continued reading after an update constitutes awareness, not coercion — you may clear cookies and leave.
Questions belong in the postbox: [email protected]. I prefer honest letters to automated tickets.
Third parties
My hosting provider processes server logs. Google processes map requests if you allow embeds. Your email provider processes messages you send me. I choose providers with reasonable reputations but do not audit their datacentres personally.
Links to other sites
Occasionally I link outward for context. Leaving talehaven.life means leaving this notice. Check the destination site's policy before sharing personal data there.
Automated decision-making
I do not use automated decision-making or profiling about visitors. There is no scoring, no segmentation, no remarketing list.
Data minimisation practice
When you email, include only what the conversation requires. I do the same in replies. Attachments are opened cautiously. If you send images, name them plainly so I know what I am opening.
Breach notification
If I become aware of a breach affecting correspondence I hold, I will notify affected individuals where feasible and describe steps taken. Static site breaches are unlikely; email compromise is the realistic risk I guard against with strong passwords and provider alerts.
This notice is complete for the current build. If law changes materially, I will revise in plain language rather than paste wholesale templates.
Access requests in practice
If you ask what I hold about you, I will search email and any paper correspondence. I will not fabricate a dossier — there is none. If you ask me to delete an email thread, I will delete it from my active mailbox unless law requires retention, in which case I will explain why.
Newsletter and mailing lists
There is no mailing list. Subscribing is impossible because the button does not exist. If someone emails you claiming to be Tale Haven marketing, it is not me.
Accessibility of this notice
This page uses the same book-spread layout as others. Headings are nested logically. If format barriers prevent you from reading policies, email and I will send a plain-text summary.
